Owning Our Story: A Blueprint for Scaling Jewish Literacy

In his recent eJewishPhilanthropy op-ed, “Owning our story: A blueprint for scaling Jewish literacy,” Noam Weissman, Executive Vice President of OpenDor Media (ODM), outlines a strategic blueprint for the future of Jewish education. Weissman argues that for the next generation to truly "own" their story, the communal focus must shift from temporary "identity experiences" toward deep, structured Jewish literacy.

This vision—moving young Jews from "passive inheritors to active authors"—is a driving force behind Mayberg Foundation’s ongoing partnership with ODM. Our current three-year grant supports this effort through the expansion of Judaism Unpacked. By replacing surface-level engagement with accessible and authentic Jewish wisdom, this channel provides the historical and textual foundation necessary for the next generation of Jews to sustain and grow their heritage.
