The Mayberg Foundation welcomed Stuart Kurlander as a new board trustee at its September 2026 board meeting. Stuart described a 40-plus-year friendship with Manette and Louis Mayberg rooted in shared Jewish communal work. Professionally, he spent decades as a partner at Latham & Watkins, where he founded the firm's healthcare and life sciences practice as well as its Israel practice, which he established in 2004.
Stuart's communal work has taken many forms over the years — as a Wexner Heritage participant, a Young Leadership Cabinet member, Federation president, JDC vice president, and chair of JDC 2035. His commitment to Jewish education runs just as deep, having helped establish a Federation education fund during his presidency: "The areas that Mayberg Foundation is in and which they've established as a family priority are things that I believe in very deeply," he said, adding that he hopes his own experience can be an asset to the board.
Mayberg Foundation Chairman and Trustee Louis Mayberg shared that Stuart also serves as trustee of a family trust established in the 1990s, and that bringing him onto the Foundation board is both a natural extension of their decades-long friendship and a deliberate step in professionalizing the Foundation's long-term planning. Todd Sukol, the Foundation’s executive director, closed the introduction by encouraging the team to make full use of Stuart's presence, recalling from his own early days on staff at the University of Maryland Hillel — where Stuart served on the board — that no one was more accessible, wise, or willing to listen and help him navigate than Stuart. He also welcomed Sarah Knox, executive assistant to Mayberg Foundation President and Trustee Manette Mayberg, to her first ever Foundation board meeting.
