Hebrew Free Loan Association Expands Outreach and Support with New Strategic Plan and Key Hire

The Hebrew Free Loan Association of Greater Washington (HFL), a Mayberg Foundation partner, is working hard to better serve the Jewish community in the DC metro area. To help with this, IEJI—another Mayberg Foundation partner—conducted a thorough Organizational Assessment. IEJI Program Director Dara Weinerman Steinberg examined all aspects of HFL—including its goals, programs, leadership, finances, and operations—and produced a detailed report with actionable recommendations for its future growth. Based on the Organizational Assessment and the following strategic planning process, HFLA realized that expanding their reach would require focusing on three main priorities: engaging the community more strategically, strengthening their board, and enhancing fundraising efforts.

To help drive these efforts, HFL recently welcomed Yale Siegel as Development and Marketing Associate. This new part-time role was created to boost fundraising, ensuring more funds are available for interest-free loans, and to raise awareness of HFL’s services throughout the community. Yale is actively working on both development and marketing initiatives, including strengthening donor relationships, producing regular newsletters, and building connections across the DC area Jewish community—all with the goal of increasing both support and loan applications.
